Neal AQCS Project - Sioux City, Iowa
The Neal Energy Center Environmental Retrofit Project consists of the installation of two dry scrubber spray dryer absorbers and two pulse jet fabric filters each for Unit 3 (515 MW nominal) and Unit 4 (644 MW nominal) of the plant.
The team of Kiewit and Burns & McDonnell was selected to engineer, pro- cure and construct the projects using Alstom as the OEM. Other plant equipment includes lime unloading and slurry preparation equipment, new induced draft fans and fly ash handling systems.
Neal Station Unit 3 (Neal 3) is a Foster Wheeler opposed wall fired, dry bottom, balanced draft boiler, rated at 3,805,000 lb/hr at 1005oF/1005oF superheat and reheat temperatures and an operating pressure of 2875 psig (MCR). This unit began operation in 1975.
Neal Station Unit 4 (Neal 4) is a Foster Wheeler opposed wall fired, dry bottom, balanced draft boiler, rated at 5,128,429 lb/hr at 1005ºF/1005ºF superheat and reheat temperatures and an operating pressure of 2620 psig
(MCR. This unit began operation in 1979.
